And So I Watch You From Afar – Set Guitars To Kill

Jinx Lennon | Sticky Heads

Impaled Northern Moonforest

Manitoba – Odessa | XLR8R

Odessa | XLR8R.

Preview of the new Manitoba album – one funky track.

The song finds Snaith boiling his varied talents as a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter and producer into a relaxed-yet-snappy slice of dance-pop, and “Odessa” also scores major bonus points for effectively channeling a bit of Kings of Convenience and Arthur Russell.

You can download it from the Manitoba website too

Two feet on your pump organ

The Auerglass is a two person pump organ created by Tauba Auerbach and Cameron Mesirow. The instument cannot be played alone.

For several weeks, the two performed daily at the Deitch Projects gallery on a bifurcated wooden pump organ that they conceived and designed over the last six years, musically acting out the interdependency of their friendship. “I had every other key in a four-octave scale, and [Auerbach] had every other key that I didn’t have,” explains Mesirow. The pumps at each artist’s feet provided wind for the keys of the other. In performance, they wore Ă˜ien-designed costumes that required each other’s help to wear, including wooden shoes that fit together “like jigsaw puzzles” back to back.

“For the first 45 seconds, it’s the most pretentious thing hip-hop has ever produced, like a black Hansel from Zoolander inserted into a Wes Anderson film. I mean, really? Then the beat goes full-retard at :46 and I forget where my face is.”
